English is supposed to be the language of pilots but if you want to be better prepared when flying in Spain or France, pick up a copy of Guía de Fraseología del Piloto VFR by Christian Coulombe. This book contains common phrases that you may encounter when flying in the region.
The chapters include phrases you may require before, during and after your flight. The phrases are presented in English, Spanish and French and there is also a vocabulary section included.
Don’t forget that Catalan is the language of choice around Barcelona so if you hear something and it does not sound like English, Spanish or French it could be Catalan. (I am told that at some of the smaller airports in the area pilots will use Catalan.)
You can get it on Amazon or for 18 euros you can get it a L’Aeroteca in Barcelona
